were of Native American decent, of the Ojibway, Menomine and Sauk tribes. These Gladwin Natives lived by hunting, fishing, and collecting wild rice in the Gladwin Area

Gladwin County's first settler was Marvel Secord. Finding more satisfaction and money in Gladwin than in the wagon business he operated in Owosso, he packed up his family and moved to what is now known as the Secord area of Gladwin County
